Preparing for Fall Sports: Injury Prevention

With school starting shortly, fall sports like football, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and golf are right around the corner. With this critical time of year approaching for so many athletes, at MCR Chiropractic, we are committed to being your fall sports injury prevention experts. If you have specific questions or concerns, contact one of our MCR Chiropractors in any one of our locations.

 Start Training Early

As an athlete, one of your goals is to become faster, stronger, and increase your endurance. You must begin training well before the season starts to improve your physical performance. Plus, engaging in strength training and conditioning can help reduce your risk of injury.

Focus on Hydration and Nutrition

What you put into your body will impact how well you can perform physically. To play your best this fall season, keep yourself hydrated and eat a proper diet. Ideally, getting started on this well before the season begins will best help set you up for a success.

Eating properly and staying hydrated will increase your energy, improve your focus, boost your immune system, and help prevent sports-related injuries. Not to mention, eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated will compliment any chiropractic adjustments that you receive at your local MCR Chiropractic throughout your preseason training.

Warm Up and Cool Down

Before performing any physical activity, you should warm up. Warming up can reduce the risk of straining your muscles. In addition, cooling down will help regulate your heart rate and breathing.

Get Plenty of Rest

Sleep affects your energy levels, mental focus, and healing. You follow a strict sleep schedule during the fall sports season, and it is a good idea to start a few weeks before practice begins. This schedule is especially true since you’ve been staying up late and sleeping in during the summer. By becoming accustomed to that sleep pattern early, you will likely sleep better throughout the season.

 Have Proper Shoe Support

You may not realize it, but the proper gear for the sport you play is essential to preventing injuries and performing your best. If your equipment has been heavily worn and you’ve had it for several years, it is time to replace them. Also, be sure that your shoes are not old or worn, as this can cause fatigue and increase your risk of potential injuries.
