(508) 492-2511With nice weather comes people participating in spring sports. While exercise is beneficial, it can also take a toll on the body, especially when people aren't performing motions correctly and are starting physical activities after months of not being physically active. Our team at MCR Chiropractic, serving Massachusetts, can help individuals who participate in spring sports. We treat a variety of health conditions, including one of the most common - shoulder pain.
Now that spring is here everyone is eager to resume physical activity outdoors, whether that be playing a sport or just taking a leisurely stroll in the park or around the neighborhood. Injuries to the shoulder are common amongst the various sports played in the spring, such as tennis, baseball, volleyball, and basketball. In addition to these sports, our chiropractors also see patients who suffer from fall injuries while walking or running in the warmer months, although they don’t typically affect the shoulder.
Shoulder injuries can be acute or chronic. For instance, you could develop shoulder pain as a result of tearing the soft tissue in the rotator cuff. On the other hand, you could develop shoulder pain when you repeatedly place pressure on the soft tissue in your shoulder. Repetitive stress injuries can worsen as you continue to work the area. In some cases, if you're not performing the motions properly or warming up as you should, you could continue to stress the area. Examples of this include bursitis and tendinitis.
Chiropractors utilize many hands-on treatments to take care of any shoulder injury you may have from tennis, baseball, or another spring athletic activity. Treatments may consist of chiropractic adjustments to the shoulder or spine, myofascial release to reduce tight and inflamed muscles, as well as one-on-one stretching. For either acute or chronic injuries, one of our chiropractors will also recommend exercises. Your chiropractor will help guide you through various exercises that work your shoulder that will gently and gradually move the area. This will help strengthen the muscles in your shoulder.
An important aspect of your care is prevention. Our chiropractors are specially trained in injury prevention and will work with you on developing a preventative and maintenance care plan, designed just for you. Your MCR Chiropractor will also educate you on ways to prevent injuries from occurring in the future.
